Wuxi is situated in the southeast of Qiyang county,Hunan Province,just by the side of the Xiang River, and on the NO.322 National Highway.North of it is the Nanyue Hengshan Mountain.South of it lies Guilin which is called”the most beautiful scenic spot in the world”.
Wuxi used to be an unknown small stream. At its entrance to the Xiang River stand three high rock peaks. strange and curious-shaped and terribly high rocks can be seen everywhen and all the spot is covered with ancient big trees. In the first year of Dali of the Tang Dynasty(AD766),Yuanjie,a great poet,was on the way to Daozhou (today’s Dao county)to take the position of ruler of the city. when his boat passed by Qiyang,he saw Wuxi and was struck by its beauty.Because of his terrible love to the spot, he called the stream Wuxi and was struck by its beauty. Because of his terrible love to the spot,he called the stream Wuxi (my stream),called the top of the highest peak wutai (my platform),and set up a pavilion on the other peak,which he called wuqing (my pavilion ).He called all these”Sanwu”and wrote three articles to praise the beauty and descriped his deep love, and had the articles carved on the high rocks by the stream. besides,his most famous poem,”Song of the flourishing of the powerful Tang Dynasty “was copied by Yan Zhenqing in standard Chinese handwriting,and the handwriting was carved on a very high and precipitous rock. Because the article, the penmanship and the carving are all queer,people call it ”the Three Unique skills on the precipitous rock”and especially because of the marvellous penmanship, it has been well- known both at home and abroad. This, many famous people in successive dynasties toured here. Li Yangbing,Huang Tingjian,MiFu,Qin Guan,Fan Chengda,Xu Dajie,XieJin,Dong Qichang,Yuan Mei, He Shaoji,Wu Dacheng and so on, all wrote poems,articles and had them carved on the rocks. So steles can be seen everywhere and these have formed a country -rare forest of steles. Now there are 505 well-kept steles carved in all kinds of Chinese tranditional handwritings.So it is called mountains of poems, painting and penmanship. The natural landscope and the man-made scenary add radiance and beauty to each other. It is really a Particalar and wonderful place of sight -seeing in south china, and greatly famed in Japan,France,kerda,South east Asia and all other countries in the world.Now it is the key unit of the preservation of cultural relics of our country and a province-grade scenic beauty.The copper statue of Comrade Tao Zhu,the proletarian revolutionary, also stands in the centre of the spot.The ancient park with a history of over one shosand years.now has taken on a new look.
